Jean Hoerni was remembered “for significantly influencing the architecture and design of data processing systems by inventing the planar process of semi-conductor circuit fabrication - the development that made possible the economical mass production of reliable integrated circuits and semi-conductor memories.” Jean was a silicon transistor pioneer and a member of the Traitorous Eight. The planar process is a manufacturing process used in the semiconductor industry to build individual components of a transistor, and in turn, connect those transistors together. It is the primary process by which modern integrated circuits are built, like I said stated above. So technically, computer engineering and electrical engineering.
I believe Jean impacted the world because building a plane is such a big thing to make, and it allows us to travel. Planar devices also provide to have better electrical characteristics, particularly far lower leakage currents. I think this has impacted my own life because we use this throughout or daily lives. If we didn’t have the planar process here today we wouldn’t be able to produce transistor inside the silicon substrate. Jean Hoerni did a great job of making an engineering process, and these facts stated are why I think it impacts to our world and lives.
